The problem Control4 is actually solving
A large home contains systems chosen by different people for different reasons: a lighting platform selected by the lighting designer, ducted air chosen by the mechanical engineer, a security system specified by the builder, audio and video chosen by the household, blinds chosen with the interior designer.
Control4 Sydney work is mostly integration, not control. Its value is that it speaks to all of those systems and presents them as one house, so a single press can involve six separate manufacturers without the household ever knowing.
Where it fits, and where it does not
For a house with one or two lighting circuits and a soundbar, an integrated platform is overkill. The threshold is roughly where a home has multiple lighting zones, ducted or hydronic climate, several audio zones, cameras or intercom, and shading, in other words where the number of separate apps starts to become the problem.
Where a single manufacturer covers everything a household needs, use it. In practice, luxury homes rarely stay inside one brand's catalogue, and that is where an integration platform earns its keep.
What separates a good installation
Three things. Design documentation issued before the walls close. Programming written around how the household actually lives rather than around the demonstration. And commissioning done in the finished rooms.
Interfaces should also be layered deliberately: keypads for daily use, touchscreens for the rooms that need more, the app for away-from-home. If the household needs a touchscreen to turn on a light, the design is wrong.
Plan for the next ten years
Processors, streaming services and displays all move. A well-specified home isolates that change: sources are centralised so they can be swapped, cabling is generous, the rack has spare capacity and space to work in, and the system is backed up and documented at handover.
