The room is the instrument
Seating distance sets screen size. Riser height sets sightlines. Wall and ceiling treatment set how the sound behaves. Get those right and modest equipment can be genuinely thrilling; get them wrong and no amount of hardware will rescue it.
That is why cinema planning belongs on the drawings, alongside structure, services and joinery.
Dedicated cinema or media room?
A dedicated room gives full control of light and acoustics and is the right answer if film matters to you. A media room is a living space that performs at night, sensible where the household wants one room to do both, provided shading, speaker positions and light control are designed properly.
Control is what makes it usable
Nobody should hunt through inputs in the dark. One press should close the blinds, dim the lights, wake the display and select the source in the right mode, and pausing should bring the lights gently back.
With Control4 running the room, the cinema becomes part of the house rather than a separate system with its own rules.
Then calibrate
Picture and sound are measured and tuned in the finished room, and worth revisiting once you have lived with it. The last few percent of performance almost always comes from calibration rather than from spending more.
